proMX supports Sucht- und Jugendhilfe e. V.
Kind words, empathy, comfort: this is how most people usually react to someone who is sick. We offer them our help and our support, and would never even consider distancing ourselves from them or blaming them for their situation.
Unfortunately, distance and blame are the types of discrimination and prejudice we often react with towards people who struggle with addiction.
What does Sucht- und Jugendhilfe e. V. do?
The Sucht- und Jugendhilfe e. V. (Addiction support and support for youths) is a non-profit organization that dedicates its work to topics such as stigma related to addiction and addresses them, among others, in its free magazine “SUCHTHILFE.”
The organization aims to increase awareness about addiction as well as educate children, young people, parents, teachers and mentors with important information that is free of stigma and helps prevent addiction.
On its website, it answers other questions, too: What does “addiction” mean exactly? Which types of addiction are there (e. g. alcohol, nicotine and drugs as opposed to a compulsive buying disorder or anorexia) and how can I recognize them?
